I had some black PLA filament that would not stick. After I turned the heat up to 220c then it started to stick to the bed. And of course make sure the bed is probably leveled.

You need to monitor the first layers to see what happens.

New printer head in place the new one is not leaking.

Yes, I did this today
The heater cartridge is easy. Unplug the green connector (it just pulls out) then loosen the 2 flathead screws and the wires come out, easy peasy
The thermister is a lot more tricky. I did manage to get the connector out in 1 piece, I got it down next to the wheel, then ...

as for the fans inside the cage they are meant to be on all the time to keep the upper parts of the print head cool from the heater block.. you would not want your filament turning to mush before it hits the heater block and nozzle...
Aaaahh so its meant to be running at all time/always.
