Would you recommend this printer?

Post by birdbatoune »

Hi, I am thinking of buying my first 3d printer and wanted your opinion on the Geeetech Prusa I3 M201 3D printer . I am not willing to have to modifiy things all the time to get it to work well so I just want a printer that once assembled, will work fine. thanks for your help. The more I read reviews the more I wonder if it is a good machine so your opinions would be helpful.

I think is much easier then the I3 series, you can change all the settings like motor directions in the LCD, no need to reburn the firmware. but the other things you still need to do by yourself, such as the bed leveling. If you want to plug and print, then maybe the Me ducer is the one you want.

Thanks Mark, I will look into that printer. What I like about this printer is I found the complete assembly on youtube so that is a great help since instructions are always lousy. I just want a printer that is easy to use and does not break all the time. The reviews for the other printers aren't so good so I am a little confused. I don't want a fully assembled printer because you are often limited to buy filament cartridges from their company and if something breaks, you must return the whole machine. I looked into the wanhao 3D Printer Duplicator I3 Version 2.0 but most people on youtube and forums say it has many problems. I'll keep doing research before I decide what to buy. Thanks

Hi,

I have one, been running a few months now.
Build video instructions OK, but even 1 section showed the builder getting frustrated during construction

It had to be modified as the X & Z Axis rods were not 100% parallel, and bends in the 8mm rods means that getting 100% level is impossible
As a few other reviewers have said, if your happy to tinker, no problems.

The power supply litteraly blew-up after 2 weeks
The Aluminum bed supplied was not flat, so upgraded to a Mk2a bed & glass.
The tiny bearings on the X & Y belts failed very quickly, so upgraded them to RC car flanged bearings
The Motor to Threaded rod coupling on the Z axis allows for way too much vertical movement

It is cheap, and you'll probably have to $200 or so to get it reliable making it not so cheap.

It works, and does the same job as others in this price range.
However, I do wonder if it would have been better and less hassel to get a pre-assembled better unit, or even a high end 2nd hand one.
