New printer. Melted 2 hot ends. Getting VERY frustrated.

Post by coreyp_1 »

I have a Geeetech Delta Rostock Mini G2s, and have had nothing but trouble. I bought it as a kit, and because university has been keeping me busy, I can only work on it off and on. The assembly alone has been a multi-month endeavor (I don't get the summer off, so I'm still doing classes/research). There have been several annoying developments in the quality of the kit, too, that has set me back. Yesterday, I was finally able to get through all of the measuring/calibrating/firmware modifications and uploading and was ready to do my first test/calibration print.

First, the spider that came with the kit had been 3d printed, and one of the holes has started delaminating. I replaced it.

Second, the power supply went out (a bunch of clicking, and won't stay at correct out voltage). I replaced it. It took a while, because I had to save up the money again.

Third, last night, I tried to do a test print. THAT'S RIGHT... I HAVEN'T EVEN BEEN ABLE TO PRINT ANYTHING ON IT YET!!!

I needed to load the filament, and I didn't see any info online that made sense to me, so I tried this: I didn't even try to load a sketch. I used the repetier host software to turn on the nozzle temperature to 210 and, when it reached the temp, I advanced the filament (ABS... it's all I have) manually. A few mm of filament came out of the hot end, but then I noticed something strange. The black plastic of the hot end started melting and the metal tip began pushing out!!!

I turned it all off. I had to remove the hot end b/c now it was completely warped. I read up some more and saw that the fan does not come on by default, so I changed the wiring so that the fan on the extruders is always on. I had one extruder left, so I tried to heat it up.

Fan on? Check. Only pushing the temp to 200? Check. Black ABS? Check. Turn it on, and the same thing happened. Only a few mm of filament came out, and then the metal tip started pushing its way out of the black plastic extruder.

Now, I have two melted extruders, really big paperweight, and not even a single 20mm test block to show for it.

What on earth did I do wrong?

Hi,
Sorry to hear that.
How long have you gotten this printer?Would you mind attaching some pictures?Cuz i've never seen the plastic version of G2s,as far as i know,Geeetech has already upgraded the version to metal version for a long time:

Maybe the plastic version's quality is not that good,i guess.
You can contact the seller to discuss how to deal with it:
maybe he'll send you a metal upgrade kit?Who knows...
