White PLA problem (solved, sort of)

Marlin 1.1.8

I purchased a spool of white filament from eBay and had to set the flowrate to 500% for it to properly print. Is this normal?

UPDATE:
It turned out the spool was partially deteriorated. A simple test is to bend a bit of filament. If it bends it is okay, but if it is brittle and breaks in half it is not suitable for use.
