Hi,

I've been having similar problems with my Prusa i3 Pro B printer that I recently assembled. The main problem seems to be that the filament is not extruding consistently, so on the solid infill layers there are parts that are properly filled, and other areas with gaps between very thin lines of filament. Also I am sometimes hearing clicks from the extruder, which sounds like the stepper motor is slipping. I have the same Mk8 extruder as pictured at the top of this thread.

I'm just wondering if the tips and suggestions given here have solved the problem for you? It sounds like it might be an appropriate course of action for me too.

I don't know if this has been resolved, but here is my experience with extruder/filament skipping problems:
After finally taking the extruder apart, I discovered the thermistor was had an intermittent connection at the crimp and the hot end overheated the PTFE sleeve in the barrel. When the PTFE has been overheated, it will be deformed and kind of sticky and the filament won't slide through smoothly with little effort. Check that the filament slides through the extruder smoothly from inlet to outlet. To do this, remove the nozzle and press the tension lever to remove the spring tension. Slide the filament into the extruder and verify it goes all the way through and out the bottom, if there is any resistance other than a light smooth tension then there is a problem that needs to be corrected before you can effectively adjust the tension spring.
