VS1053 mp3 shield not working?

I recently bought a Geeetech VS1053 MP3 shield but until now I haven't been able to get any sound from it. I tried a sketch provided by sparkfun (file player) and the MP3 shield library demo (this one gave an error with SetVolume that's why I used the ones Provided by Sparkfun. How can I tell the board is actually working? I'm using a Kingston Fat32 formatted 16 Gb micro SD card and used track names like track001.mp3
