Pro i3 B - Extruder has stopped working

Hi,
I've had my printer for a year and it's been great - thanks for making such a good value product.
but it stopped extruding yesterday. I've followed all the advice I can find here and have:
- installed the latest firmware,
- confirmed all motors and drivers boards are OK by swapping X and extruder cables and drivers.
So I can only think that the GT2560 board has maybe failed...? If it's just the output for extruder #1 that's dead, could I use the output for extruder #2 instead? If so, what changes would I need to make in the firmware? Any other ideas?
