Extruder Non Functional

I'm running a Prusa I3 X and the extruder driver will not feed, here are the steps I have taken so far:
-I checked and reinstalled the firmware after asking customer support for it
-I plugged in the X axis driver into the extruder port on the board, driver failed then
-I plugged the extruder driver into the X axis port on the board, driver failed to turn but noise is heard from it trying to turn
