G2S Z motor hesitant

Freshly set up my G2S and upon home, the Z carriage moved a little then stopped. I was able to put some force upwards and have it work, but then in moving -Z 10 mm, works the first time, the second time Z only moves about 6 mm before stopping. If I keep light pressure on it, it will move with the X,Y motors. It has trouble moving both directions. After moving down, it needs pressure to get back up as well.

can you move the Z axis up and down smoothly by hand? If not , check the rods, they might not straight assembled; or the belts too tight?

Thank you, making the drive belt looser worked. It had been too loose originally, and I went overboard tightening it.
