Geeetech MK8 Extruder / Firmware changes

Post by lockbot »

I am replacing a geared extruder with the MK8 Extruder setup. When I install the extruder and run test, the extruder is rotating very fast. I need to slow this down. What firmware settings should I check. I know E Steps will need to be changed, but also I need to slow down the RPM.

I think change E steps is enough, isn't it? haven't study it before...

Yes this is E-steps on your extruder. This is the number of steps the motor must turn to push 1 millimeter of filament into the extruder. (200 is one complete rotation) The default entry is insanely high and it needs to be between 75 and 110 depending on several factors. If you haven't calibrated your e-steps before, you are extremely lucky. You will want to get some light colored filament, mark it with a marker in 10mm increments and then tell your software to advance 10mm through the extruder. Then you will adjust the e-steps up or down so that you actually use 10mm of filament. This can be a different number for different filaments, so you will end up doing it a lot if you buy many different brands. There is a pretty good YouTube video on how to do this.

Hope this helps,
