Can't level the hot ends G2S Pro
Hi I have a G2S Pro. One of the hot ends is slightly lower than the other. I loosened the top nut and moved one a quarter turn up and the other a quarter turn down, but it is not enough and the hot ends are still not level. But I can't twist the hot end any more than this because the heating and thermister wires are hitting the opposite hot end??
How are you supposed to adjust them more?

unscrew the setscrew on the heating block and move the heating cartridge then it will be easy for you to adjust them.

So I had them apart again. It isn't this simple, I think something is not alligned, maybe a diagonal rod is a different length?
I can set hot end 1 + 2 Z height perfectly on center position, Z and Y axis scripts but on X axis script hot end 2 is always hitting the bed first. On all the other scripts during calibration hot ends are level.
I think one or two of the rods are not of equal length and its causing the spider to tilt off level..

So I figured this thing is never going to print with two heads as its impossible to setup because of some part quality issues; so I removed hot end 2 from the printer thinking I'll just have to use it as a single head printer.
Now I have errors and the printer will not do anything:
I reconnected the hot end 2 (but left it on the table not attached to the spider) and tried resetting the printer. I also went back through the build instructions and verified all the cables and connectors are in the correct positions but still I have this error and the printer is totally unresponsive (I also unplugged and reseated all the connectors to be sure).
Really frustrated right now and beginning to regret buying this printer

Code: Select all

22:37:09.767 : Error:Printer halted. kill() called!

Re: Can't level the hot ends G2S Pro
actually you can leave the hotend 2 on the spider, just make sure it is higher than the first one.
And the MIN temp error, this is caused by a open circuit of the thermistor, I think you need to check the hotend 2 thermistor, might be damaged or loose when you disassemble it.

Re: Can't level the hot ends G2S Pro
Thanks for the reply Mark.
So I did some more work since posting and got many things fixed. I actually had Z MIN switch plugged into thermistor port by accident.. I disassembled the machine and screwed up hot end 2 out of the way and connected ports correctly. I've actually had 'some' nice prints out of the printer now. But two issues remain:
1) The extruder is clicking and skipping (not driving the filament). I've read the post on setting up the extruders and adjusted the screw on the extruder but find I need 1.4 volts on the driver to stop the skipping?
Is 1.4v going to cause damage? (it says not to go over 1.2v). If so, how do I stop the skipping if I turn it back down to 1.2v?
2) What is the solution to not being able to level number 2 hot end? I have run through all the calibration and have very good level on extruder 1 in all four scripts (x, y, z, center positions). If I level extruder 2, it is fine in centre. y and z scripts, but with x tower script extruder 2 hits the bed before extruder 1.
Thanks for the support.

Re: Can't level the hot ends G2S Pro
Just to add some more information regarding the extruder clicking / skipping..
- I am using PLA and have tried 200 and 205 degrees on hotend
- I am able to extrude manually pushing the filament by hand
- I have calibrated the E Steps so now 50mm request in Repetier draws 50mm of filament accurately (when it does not skip)
- I don't have a blocked nozzle as I can print OK most of the time (generally it makes nice prints also), just very occasionally I have a click now at 1.4v
- Anything less than 1.4v and I have many clicks
Thanks

Re: Can't level the hot ends G2S Pro
my motor will click when the voltage is bigger than 1.2V, I think 1.4V is very strange, you can try to swap the extruder motor driver to the other axis, see if the same thing happened or not.
And the second hotend, since you said the first one is printing well, then I think the bed is leveled, might be the mechanical error of the rods or something...

Well I tried the same driver, but with the other stepper motor. Same problem, intermitent clicking. Sometimes its every couple of seconds, sometimes it can go 30 seconds without a click.
What are your speed settings in Slic3r for the G2S Pro?

Re: Can't level the hot ends G2S Pro
I have tried 2nd extruder on same driver, same issue, needs 1.4v. I will try swapping drivers next.
2 questions:
- Will 1.4v and higher cause damage to electonics or extruder? (I don't find extruder motor is getting hot or anything)
- Where to buy hot ends for G2S Pro, they aren't on the website, only whole extruders assembly..?
Thanks
