Part issue- Belt tensioner pulley, bearings and bracket

Post by Animosh »

So today during my third print I noticed m a grunt sound coming from my heat bed. I stopped the print and began inspecting parts. I found by heat bed belt tensioner with all kinds of metal dust under it. I took it off and found a lot of problems:

1. The belt tensioner position is maybe 10mm off center to the stepper motor and gear. Not a problem until you realize what this is doing to the parts.

What was happening is because the tension pulley is off center with the motor the belt is pulling it slightly to one side. What this did is as follows

1. It forced the pulley to grind into the metal bracket holding it.
2. Forced the bearing(inside the pulley) to grind into the bracket
3. Due to all the grinding the bracket is now screwed up
4. the bearing is only half there

Things i did to prevent this during the build:
1. bent the bracket to be open more so the pulley would be loose
2. put washers on either end of the pulley to create a slight gap and prevent rubbing on bracket
3. oiled the screw that holds the pulley

So now I am searching for another pulley and another bracket, and how to drill acrylic without cracking it. And no I will not be buying from Geeeetech again, not even a damn washer.
