Hello,
I just received my new Prusa I3 Pro B 3 weeks ago and after assembling it, everything works just fine.
After some prints, I wanted to improve the print quality by following the instructions in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_Wb0i0-Qvo. I set the E-steps and suddenly the extruder stopped working and Repetier Host is sending the message active extruder: 0.
First I reflashed the firmware, but the failure was still present.
Seems to be an electrical failure or connection problem. I exchanged the stepper motors (incl. the wiring) from E- to X-axis and the now the extruder was working again (as X-axis), but the actual X-axis stopped working. So the stepper itself and the wiring is out of the way.
I also exchanged the A4988 drivers between all axes and the failure kept being on the E-axis.
Finally I resoldered the pins of the E-axis without success.
After swaping in a donor GT2560 board, everything is fine, so the failure definitely is in my control board.
Since I can't keep the donor board, I want to fix my GT2560.
Do you have any experience with this failure? I didn't find anything in the forum so far, maybe I used the wrong search strings.
I already asked Geeetech for a replacement control board, but they only referred to this forum.
Your advice is very appreciated, since I want my 3D printer to work again.
Thanks a lot in advance and cheers,
Quark

Hi,
You mean the filament didn't come out or the extruder motor didn't rotate at all?
Have you checked all of this like the driver voltage?

I think you can attach a video about your test(Youtube link plz).

Hello William,
the extruder stepper motor doesn't rotate at all. The driver voltage is just above 0,8 V.

Re: Prusa I3 pro B GT2560 failure active extruder: 0
Hello,
I tried it after letting it sit over night and now the extruder is kind of working.
The message active extruder: 0 now comes up sporadic. The extruder motor stops working during extruding and active extruder: 0 pops up. I can start a new extrusion, but the amount of filament, that is pulled into the hotend is absolute random.
Any ideas? Looks like a sporadic overload/failure on the extruder signal line. I exchanged the stepper drivers again with no change of the behavior.
Thanks for your help

Ah,i have some ideas in my mind. You have a Pro B,that is to say,the extruder 1 socket on your board hasn't been using.
So i think you can change the pins on extruder 0 and extruder 1.Refer to the following post to have a try:

Re: Prusa I3 pro B GT2560 failure active extruder: 0
Hello William,
thanks a lot for your reply. I tried the fix you proposed with a known good stepper and wiring on both extruder headers and still, the motor is not moving at all and I keep receiving active extruder: 0.
Also today (after letting it sit over night again) the extruder motor is not working at all. Pretty frustrating for a 3 weeks old machine.
Do you have any additional idea I can try or is my board toast?
Thanks and cheers

If you've modified the firmware and uploaded it,and the extruder still didn't work.I think the extruders' pins output has a problem, you can ask the seller for a replacement.
