you mean at room temperature and it is already 74? then I think the hotend thermistor is dead. you can refer to this link to check the bed, if the bed is ok then use the bed thermistor to verify it.

It starts at 70 something but as the hotend gets hot, the temperature does rise. Also: this is the second thermo resistor. My guess is that the thermo resistor is working, but the firmware does not have the correct beta.

Displays 128 when shorted. 74 when open.

Is there any solder bridge or bad contact of the pins on the board? you can check the voltage between the two pins of the thermistor connector, it's about 5V.

No solder bridges or bad contacts on any of the pins on the board that I could see. There seems to be 3.3V between the two pins of the thermistor connector.

Oh yeah it should be 3.3V, I always thonght it was GT2560...sorry my bad. Do you have an original thermistor? I think your new thermistor is not fit for the settings in the firmware, if you use an original one then you'll know it is the board or the thermistor's problem.

I have re installed the original. Same results. Is there any way to modify the firmware? I still believe this is a problem of settings.

the original firmware is the one used on all the M201, so if the other printers works well then it won't be a problem. Might be the board's problem if you can sure the thermistor is in good condition.
