A few questions before buying my 1st 3d Printer

Post by mediaklan »

Hi to you all !
I intend to buy (in a month or two) the Acrylic Geeetech I3 pro 3D printer DIY kit (http://www.geeetech.com/acrylic-geeetec ... p-884.html) and use it with my Linux computers (presently using Fedora & Ubuntu, both with Cura, RepSnapper, Repetier Host and Slic3r installed). But I have almost no knowledge in 3d printer, and even less technical knowledge in how to assemble it. For that I'm gonna study the PDF and wiki i found on geeetech website but I still have some questions though, so ... can you please help me with this ^^ ?
Here we go :
- What is the difference between Sanguinololu Rev 1.3a and mega2560 + ramps 1.4 ? Pros & cons ?
- How should I choose between the different hotend nozzle size ? Can I buy two different sizes (if it's interesting for me) ?
- I've first seen the Acrylic Geeetech I3 pro 3D printer DIY kit in Aliexpress website, is it OK to buy from them since shipping to France is free ?
Thank you all for your help !

hello,
A1,For the difference between Sanguinololu Rev 1.3a and mega2560 + ramps 1.4 you can refer to the following links

http://www.geeetech.com/ramps-14-reprap ... p-606.html
http://www.geeetech.com/reprap-sanguino ... p-609.html

A2: as you can see from the assembly instruction, sanguilonolu is more easier in terms of wiring and mount, so i recommend sanguinololu.

A3: all size are ok, but remenber to check if the default nozlle size in the firmware is the same with the one you choose. And of cause you can buy more with different size.

A4:there are many stores where you can buy this I3 pro, most of them offer free shipping,so you can buy from aliexpress.

Thank you Rita for your answers ! I will check this out. There's still plenty of things I don't understand, but I will figure it out in my own pace.

Hi,

Most of my local store that sell filaments are.

1.75mm and spare parts 3mm and 4mm nozzle.

So it would be better to get something that you can easily buy the filament at your local store.
In my case I got.

1.75mm with 3mm nozzle. ABS.

I hope that help

hmm... meaning you're using 1.75mm filament with a 3mm nozzle ? I suppose we can you also use 3mm filament with a 3mm nozzle ?
I will take a look for fablab and local store near my home, but I think there are not many stores for this where I live (right now).
