Driver problem

Post by reg1 »

I am having a problem connecting to the Prusa i3 Pro c printer. I get the "Access to the port COM3 is denied" message.

I am running Windows 8.1 64-bit.

Looking through the forums, I found the topic "How to install Mega2560 in win8.1" and began walking through the steps. However, when I attach the USB cable, instead of a COM port called "Arduino Mega 2560", I have a COM port called "USB Serial Port(COM3)". I tried following the instructions to update the driver, but after browsing to the arduino 1.0.1 driver folder, I get the message "Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date. USB Serial Port" and I still get the access denied message.

Can you give any advice why the COM port is different and how to connect the computer to the printer?

OK. I tried opening the serial monitor in Arduino and it said the com3 port was in use by another program. I accidentally installed the repetier-server software and that was loading on startup and hijacking the com3 port. Shutting that off allowed me to make the connection in reptier host.

Thanks
