Prusa i3b PLA clicking after a while

Post by stark0 »

Hi!

I have a prusa i3b and I have no problems for print PLA small pieces but when it takes more than 3-4 hours it starts to click and the filament doesn't come out.

Here is a video with the problem:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NszF6BFAOqk

You can appreciate that there are parts where the filament hadn't been extruded.

I searched about this problem in the forum and I didn't found anything-. What do you think it could be?

Thank you!

Hi,
You mean all the objects take more than 3-4 hours have a printing problem or just one object has this "clicking" problem?

I managed to finish my print disabling the retraction but the quality is very low.

As you can see in this image:

There are a lot of holes, the extruder started to click and then the filament didn't come out in that parts.

I read a lot of mk8 extruder, it's there any way to get it printing correctly or I should replace with another extruder? If that is the answer, is there a guide to do this?

Thank you very much

Hi,
Looks like it is printing layer separation. I think its the slicer problem.
1.You can try reducing the layer height to see if it helps the layers bond together better.
2.If not,try increasing the hotend temperature by 5-10 degrees to see if the adhesion improves.
In addition, you can have a try to our default slicer config to see if there is a difference(choose the right nozzle size):

Thank you William for your reply,

I think configuration is not the problem, if I turn on retraction the PLA jams on the throat after 2 or 3 hours but if I disable retraction the print finishes but all the holes in the layers are because the extruder started to click (jam at the throat). The first layers stick very well so I don't think it's a temperature or layer adhesion problem.

I'm trying a few tweaks to see if the situation improves and then I'll try your configuration.

Hi again,

I need to know what voltages should have the A4988 of the extruder.

Thank you!

Hi,
Did your motor of extruder move abnormally?
1.Make sure all the jumpers should be plugged in.

2.Normally the value should be 0.8V-1.2V.If the voltage is too low or too high, the step motor will not work stable. It will lose steps or vibrates, sometimes too hot. You can rotate the potentiometer on the driver to adjust the voltage to about 1.0V and see it if works.

I changed the value trying to fix my issue and since then I can't print normally (the motor has 1V), the flow of the filament is irregular and the result is like this:

Image

I don't know what to do, I'm wasting a lot of time and effort trying to print normally. If I push the filament by hand, the result is the expected, it seems like the motor can't pull the filament, any idea?

My printer is an i3b Pro with the GT2560 rev A and it seems like a new version of the mk8 extruder (all the photos from the wiki are different).
