Right hand Z axis motor not working

Post by perpetualmetronome »

Hello all,

The right hand motor of the Z axis is not turning; I believe this to be a control board (GT2560) or firmware issue, my diagnosis as follows:

- When moving the Z axis with Repetier Host, only the left hand stepper motor turns
- With Z axis connectors swapped, only the left hand stepper motor turns
- When right hand motor connected to Y axis on control board, the right hand motor turns

So:
- The right hand motor runs fine when connected to a non-Z axis port
- When both Z axis motors are connected to Z axis ports only the left hand motor runs, no matter which motor is connected to which port

I am setting up to flash the firmware, but I was hoping that someone had some experience with this and what might be causing it, as the firmware update is just a guess on my part.

Thanks!

Hi,I don't think that's firmware's problem and maybe the hardware.
first,check the right hand motor's wiring connection;
second,check if it's stuck;
third,maybe the motor driver A4988 module's problem.
hope you can make it !

Hi William,

Thanks for the reply; the motor and wiring is fully functional:

In addition, when the left hand Z axis motor is disconnected from the control board, the right hand motor runs just fine.

Ok, so I flashed the firmware for the controller board, using the firmware found via this page:

viewtopic.php?f=13&t=17181

And now the printer displays black squares on starting.

Not really very happy. :(

Ok, firmware downloaded via

http://domoticx.com/prusa-i3-geeetech-f ... -4-gt2560/

Which works - and both Z axis motors run correctly.

The firmware downloaded via this page:

http://www.geeetech.com/wiki/index.php/ ... _Resources

Does not work.

Oh, hey, no worries - you replied with a suggestion, which is great! :)

I'm a little concerned that I cannot seem to locate the correct working firmware for the printer on the Geeetech site though. :(
