I3 M201 failure to start printing

Post by DennisFBailey »

I have just completed the build of my Prusa I3 M201 and tried to print my first attempt using the SD card. I can find the file OK and it appears that the printer THINKS it is printing (the command display changes to include "Turn", "Suspend Print" and "Stop Print" but the printer goes through an initiation process (resets the X,Y and Z axis), heats the bed, heats the hotend, switches off Extruder 2 (the fan stops). When the temperature meets the settings, the heat undertakes one pass of the bed and then returns to the start position and then everything just stops ... extruder is not attepting to feed any filament and time to complete on the display remains as at start (48 minutes to complete). What am I doing wrong???

Thanks Mark - that has resolved the problem ... however, I now have another problem! The printer homes the X, and Z axis correctly but when it starts to print the hotend is not positioning correctly and the Z axis is depressing below the normal home position (microswitch is fully depressed beyond the point at whih the switch is activated) thus causing the hotend to crash into the bed. In addition, the head is not moving into the centre of the bed but starting to print at the extreme of the Y axis at the front of the printer which in turn causes the stepper motor to stall as the bed has reached the end of its travel moving towards the front of the printer. The X axis seems to have centred the print 1/2 way across the bed. I am using SLIC3R to generate the GCODE on the SD card and I generated the code from the "quick slice and save as ...." option. I have indented the X and Y axis in the SLIC3R program by 20 each to try to adjust where the print should start but this seems to have no effect on the starting position of the attempted print on the bed. Any advice or guidance will be welcome .. Thanks!

the Z axis homing problem, have released a new firmware 1.0.4, you can test it see if it works.
And the bed center problem, will check it later.
