Z calibration prusa i3 aluminum

Post by Pechroc1 »

I have had the printer for weeks now and still can not get to print past the first layer. The position of the extruder head is too far from the print bed now matter how I configure the print in any slicer program and level the bed. When printing with a .2 nozzle it will print fine for the first layer then set to high for the second. Any larger nozzles will never get close enough to the bed. If I set the z axis hight to .05 the nozzle sets itself at least 5mm over the print bed. My only conclusion is that the z axis is not calibrated in the firmware...? I cannot load new firmware as my arduino ide does not show sanguino as a board type in the menus. Please help.

Hi,
First download the firmware for your I3 aluminum from here:
viewtopic.php?f=20&t=17046
Then use arduino 1.0.1 to upload it(it shows sanguino as a board type in the menus):

I'm thinking if there are some installing errors during your assembly?

The installation was very straightforward. The only thing that could cause this kind of thing can is the pitch of the threaded rod. If I go to the lcd menu and use the dial to move the z axis to 20.00mm the nozzle mesures approximately 130mm off the print bed....? It's this normal?

No,it is not...
I guess maybe you uploaded the wrong firmware, there are two versions of firmware for your Sanguinoloulu(one for lead screw(Z axis) and the other one for threaded rod).
And i think you uploaded the one for threaded rod while what you got is lead screw actually.

Problem solved i was unable to chance the steps of the Z axe in arduinio . I chanced it with help of the LCD, from 2560 steps back to 400, Now it prints oke.

Hi. I had the same problem too. I did all firmwares updates, nothing worked. So I did what our friend up here did, I changed directly in the 3D printer LCD display. Now teh Z step / mm is 400. But, when I print a object with 10 mm heigher or more, the nozzle seems to "smash" my object. I think that 400 steps is not enought. Anybody can help me? Thanks!
