Prusa i3 A stops randomly

Post by Stefaan »

Hello all, I recently purchased a i3 Pro A Aluminium, and after some weeks, the printer stops randomly during printing. The screen blinks, printer reboots like nothing has happened and resume printing.

The problem happen only when printer prints or pre heat.

Here is a video to show you the problem : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHQ86Cdr6d4

I always print with sd card, the power source is stable, I updated the firmware with the latest available on your website, and I just tried with a brand new power supply, same problem.

I also have this problem https://vgy.me/CMBRfo.jpg, when this happen the printer continue to work but I can't control the lcd.

I can't print for some weeks now and it's getting really annoying.

My guess would be something is going wrong with the control board. It could be getting too hot anf thad is causing it to stop until it cools off. that could also explain the display being mixed up. Is the power supply running hot? Are the fans running?

Yes the fans are running, and no the power supply is not hot.

I still think the problem could be related to the control board or the stepper driver getting too hot. Do you know what voltage the x axis is set at? It may be set too high. I don't have the A model so I'm not sure how to get to the board.

I think the problem comes from heat dissipation, the printer can't work normally if the board overheat which will directly influence the voltage stability,so you need to check the fan working well in the board.

The fan works well on the board, and the problem happen randomly, after some minutes or hours, so I don't think it's the stepper driver. And unfortunately I don't have a voltmeter to check that.

The randomly stopping working is more likely due to the power instability,It’s necessary to test the power supply by voltmeter while the printer working
