Hotend will not heat up

Post by Plasticator »

Hi, can anyone offer any suggestions as to why my hotend has just stopped heating up?
It first of all started by randomly giving me thermal runaway messages halting the prints, then it just stopped heating up altogether,
I have:-
Checked wiring - all cables have continuity
Checked hotend breakout board - continuity from socket to all connectors
Replaced cartridge heater
Replaced mainboard
Checked mainboard fuses - all intact and have continuity
Tried pre-heating hotend - appears no voltage to cartridge heater?
Swapped driver on extruder stepper - no change

I am about out of ideas on this and essentially my printer is useless at this time, if anyone has any suggestions or helpful advice I'd very much appreciate it.

Ok, just a heads up and for info of other users of the A10, it turns out my problem was poor wiring/crimping in the hotend connector plug.
This was manifest from the outset with my BLTouch sensor flashing red rather than being a steady red illumination, the problems obviously got worse over time to the point where the hotend itself stopped heating up and the thermistor was failing to report temp. of the hotend which caused the thermal runaway error messages.
So, top tip, if you have any weird issues with BLTouch, hotend heating or temp. errors I would suggest re-wiring the connector plug, this can be done reasonably cheaply by getting a crimp tool from ebay and a new plug and crimps from somewhere like RS components.
The plug itself is Molex Micro-Fit 3.0 Female Connector Housing available from RS components in packs of 5.

The crimps are Molex Micro-Fit RMF Female Crimp Terminal available in a pack of 25, just enough to do 2 connectors.

Hope this info helps, since I've done mine I have no more issues and the BLTouch always comes on correctly with a steady red light rather than flashing red which indicates an issue.
